Cleft Sentences

We use cleft sentences to emphasize a part of the sentence focusing the attention on a particular word or phrase.

There are two ways of forming cleft sentences:

a) What- clause +be+ focus

e.g: What I like most about England is the food.

b) It+be+focus+that- clause

e.g: It is the food that I like most about England.

In both cases food is the focus, and receives the main stress.
